I read a very fascinating article on Relax Meditate Smile titled Overcoming Fear Pt 1 and I thought I would also contribute to the fear conversation as it is an important one. Many people don’t realize the constant pressure we are under by the media to be fearful. It’s not just the news, although that is a good part of it, but also advertising and general television programming (24?) sends out message units that not only add to our stress but keeps many people fearful.
Fear in advertising is nothing new and Listerine is the champion of fear advertising (Read here about their 1921 ad campaign which actually had an effect on the American public). Fear is the most effective way to get the average consumer; whether it’s Listerine and America’s “Rotten breath” or Lysol and it’s war against harmful germs, it’s enough to get consumers running towards their products. For the record, we use no commercial anti-bacterial products in this home and neither my husband or I have gotten sick because of it. If anything, we are sick less. I am told however, and this can not be proven because I have not done the research, that my lemon/borax homemade cleanser does kill the harmful bacteria. Score one for God and his ability to keep us safe naturally?
The moral of the story is, to avoid fear, stop bringing fear in your home. Turn off the TV once in a while and enjoy a nice family game night or spend the day with enjoying nature. Giving up our television was the easiest thing that we have ever done, and probably the most beneficial to our stress levels and our bank account. I am NOT saying TV is the root of all evil, but really pay attention to the commercials you are seeing. How many use peace to get you into the store to buy their products? Peace is boring! Fear gets your attention. It makes you think, it could happen to me. It gets you to the store to buy that product…
Food for thought? Tell me what you think!

Sitting in front of a TV for hours each day really influences a persons point of view. This may sound a paranoid, but don’t we want to be in control of our own outlook? The scary thing is that people become so brain dead that they gravitate to a TV to make them feel alive the way cows in a dairy farm go to the trough for their “food.”
There is so much more waiting for us in nature, service, and most interesting to me; an inner life with Spirit. So many ways we can experience our higher nature and help each other and our world at the same time. Thank you for your blog. This is exactly what I mean. Much good work to do!
peace and fun,
